An Outdoor Portrait Shoot with Fill Flash
And why you may want to brighten up your pictures as well
My Fujifilm X100V has a flash built into it. And you probably have one or two cameras with the same option. But how often do you use it? My guess… not often enough.
Fill flash can brighten the eyes, smooth out skin tones, and compensate for harsh side lighting. Here are a few images from a recent outdoor photo shoot - all with fill flash.
If you’re interested in how I made these pictures, the gear I used, and the settings that I tapped, check out the article, The Endangered Camera Flash on Live View. It’s a free read if you use this link.
Then head outdoors and fire up your flash.

As I look back on the year, there are five things that stand out. And I'm going to discuss each of them on this week’s TDS Photography Podcast.
