Threads Takes on Twitter
Nothing like that new car smell for social media
Well, we may or may not ever see the Zuckerberg vs Musk cage match, but this might be almost as good. Meta has just launched Threads, a right jab at Twitter. And we have a ringside seat.
If you already have an Instagram account, setting up Threads is easy. Just download it from the App Store or Google Play, run through the setup using your IG info, and you’re off to the races.
And because it’s new and mainly populated by your existing friends, it feels like a throwback to the early days of social media when things were fun and exciting.
You can post pictures, share witty comments, add likes to the posts that please you, and do so without intrusive ads or the vitriol we had to endure on Twitter.
Of course, at some point the fresh paint dries, and that new car smell is replaced by a mysterious odor of day-old French fries lodged in the seat crack. But until that happens, if it happens, it’s nice to experience a few moments of what brought us to social media in the first place.
You can find me on Threads as derrickstory. Let’s share some pictures and brighten the day.

Wait, Fujifilm's app is good now?
If you’re a Fujifilm photographer and have been wondering if it’s worth the effort to download and set up the new XApp, this article on DPReview provides a great overview.
My experience with it has been quite good, using it with the X100V and the 100S. I particularly like how the XApp automatically geotags my pictures. But there are plenty of other nifty features as well.
