I wasn't expecting the stacked sensor of the OM-1, it's too expensive. But I was hoping they'd go for a higher pixel count, like was done in the Fuji X-H2 40mp. That would have made it easier to justify upgrading from my Pen-F. But to be honest, the one feature that has been my must-have is Hand-Held-High-Res. And that one is included in the OM-5, along with some other great computational features. So I'm still on the fence: OM-5 or a Google Pixel 7 Pro???
My thoughts on this camera are a little different. I own the E-M5 Mark III and The OM-1. I was hoping OM System would have put more effort into the OM-5. To me the added upgrades to an existing body are not worth the price of this camera. It looks like they used the same exact body with possibly the same flawed tripod mount. The viewfinder is the same as the older camera, the menu system is the same as the older camera and they even use the old outdated micro USB port. In my opinion, if OM System wants to stay in business they need move forward with new tech like they did with the OM-1. I am really rooting for this company as I have a long lasting love for Olympus cameras. I am a little disappointed that the first camera that displays the OM System logo is actually an older camera with some ported over upgrades. I think this camera should be priced at $899 for what it is. I’m not sure they will be selling many at the current price as the better known Camera manufacturers have more attractive offers. Just some thoughts from me. 😊 Love all the work and content you always put up!
Hi Dominick, Thanks for your comment. Yes, you raise a number of good points indeed. In my view what we're seeing with the OM-5 is an attempt by OM System to put forth a camera with the latest technology but not with "all the features" of the flagship OM-1. Personally, I'm in the middle between your opinion and what OM System has done. I do think, for example, that they should have used USB-C and updated the menu system. I'm fine with the lower resolution viewfinder and some of the other specs. In the end, the market will determine how successful their design is. I hope they look at your comment and those like yours as they evaluate their work. Thanks again for chiming in!
A disappointment to say the least. They had momentum going with the OM-1 and blew it with this lackluster upgrade to the OM-5. Hopefully they knock it out of the park with a new PEN-F.

Interesting choice for sure…

I hope they listen 😊 I do love the OM-1 though!
